Description

Harley Ingleby 9’1 HIHP Brushed Carbon – Black Clear and Matte

This is the performance longboard that Harley Ingleby rode when he won his second ASP World Longboard Title in 2014. This model is also an upgraded version of the longboard Harley rode when he won his first world title in 2009. The HIHP shaped by Billy Tolhurst is a true high performance longboard with continual curve rocker that enables direction adjustments form anywhere on the board. The HIHP is designed flat under the nose for superior planning tight in the curl. A slightly convex bottom through the middle helps keep the rails nice and free for quick rail-to-rail transitions. A spiral V with double concaves and a flat tail area behind the fins allows powerful turning in all surf sizes. Normally rode as a thruster, the addition of a quad fin box set-up improves handling in big surf where longer turns at speed are preferred.

Brushed Carbon

The primary performance difference between Thunderbolt Black (CARBON) or Thunderbolt Red (FIBERGLASS) is in the flexural characteristics of each material.Fiberglass is “stretchier” than carbon fiber, so boards laminated with fiberglass are easier to flex and have a rebound rate that is smooth and consistent. Carbon fibers take more energy to flex but once flexed, the rebound rate is very fast, making the boards accelerate out of turns with added projection.

Lighter surfers will often prefer the fiberglass exterior lamination as they can create more flex and let the internal flex control components of the Thunderbolt blanks come into full play. Heavier surfers who have more ability to flex the carbon fiber boards can get even more power from the carbon fiber rebound.

With that being said, surfers of all sizes and weights can surf the fiberglass laminations and experience the Thunderbolt projection. Generally, save the carbon fiber boards for larger (175+ pounds) or for chasing barrels.

Brushed Carbon models have micro-cell spheres and sanded finish to minimize weight.

Harley Ingleby Surfboard Technology

The Harley Ingleby Series shaped by Billy Tolhurst is designed with Thunderbolt Technologies, utilizing advanced materials and technology in surfboard design that decreases weight while taking performance, flex, and control to the next level.

These lightweight epoxy constructions are 100% hand layups, and begin with an EPS foam core with multi-component carbon fiber stringer system, for high performance flex and twist. Proprietary designs employing internal carbon fiber components are arrayed in the deck and rails for precise flex control and strength.

The core shield PVC shell provides flexible protection to increase the longevity of the boards without compromising flex and twist characteristics. With a substantial amount of carbon fiber and fiberglass in the deck, bottom, and rails, surfboards in the Harley Ingleby Series will outperform and outlast traditionally constructed polyester comp boards.
